I Don’t Have Time

One of the most frequent comments I hear of what gets in the way of taking the much-needed time for personal recharging and renewal is “I don’t have time”.    The reason behind this thought seems that if time is taken away from your to-do list to be still and focus on one’s breathing and health it is unproductive.  I get it. Once, I struggled with those same thoughts.

By now you may be thinking, yes those all sound good, but Bonnie, you don’t understand, “I really don’t have time”.

I do understand.  I also understand the damage that occurs when you don’t give yourself time to be still.

In the last six months, five friends have been diagnosed with serious life threatening illnesses.  Others are dealing with relationship problems, sleepless nights, and a constant state of anxiety wondering “when is the other shoe going to fall?”  Each of these individuals is a conscientious, hardworking, kind person.  They are at a crossroads of continuing to do the same old thing to get by or allowing these happenings to be a wake-up call to making time to do something different…

To be still, instead of pushing for results

To be present instead of pushing away uncomfortable feelings

To dwell in the simplicity of breathing instead of holding the breath (literally)

The truth is by making a practice to consciously be still in our day-to-day life, the following benefits occur:

  • Physiologically the body shifts from overdrive of constant stimulation and distraction to slowing down, enabling a fresh perspective on the tasks before you.
  • Anxious thoughts become calm, giving you the foundation for more focus and getting things off your to-do list.
  • Continuous tense muscles soften that over time can potentially lessen physical pain.
  • You listen better and understand another’s point-of-view…the basis of resolving differences and promoting collaborative problem solving
  • Creative ideas come to problems that have had you stumped for answers.

With 20 plus years helping others change their mindset patterns, I understand how hard it is to break habits that have been ingrained for years.

I understand being more comfortable with a quick list of “how to’s” than concepts related to being instead of doing, slowing down, and being present with each moment.

I’m in the development process of a group program to help people who don’t have the time.  Is this you? Do you want to receive the benefits listed above in your life? Contact me today.  Together let’s figure out a way to care of yourself before a life threatening illness or relationship problem is your wake-up call.
